What’s the thing you’re most scared to do? What would it take to get you to do it?

Personal log – Lt. Mayson
The war has raged on longer than I care to remember. Years ago, the Orks fell from the sky on a flaming meteor into the desolate regions. No one had taken them seriously. Within weeks though, they had increased in numbers and the greenskin horde pressed out towards the cities in the flatlands. No one survived. The attacks were ferocious and mindless. Rokkit fire and metal flying through the air destroyed everything, Ork or human alike.
Ever since Cadia had gone silent, the warp storms had raged in the skies. The regiments Astropaths were paying with their lives to send communiques to the any who could receive it, calling for aid. None had answered. We all pray to the Emperor that our brethren will answer, some even believing the mighty Space Marines themselves will lend their holy guns to our defence. I am ashamed to say I have lost faith in any divine intervention.
Frinler, the last city on the plains, was my home. A beautiful city, carved from pure aegentean marble that glimmered in the warm sun like a beacon of hope amongst the stars. When it fell, my family, my friends and my life fell too. It lies in broken rubble now, never to shine again. That stone can never be remade. Those lives can never be restored.
The Orks have not gained ground in months. The home guard are dug into trenches that stretch across the land like veins, giving just enough shelter from the shells to transport supplies to the front lines. My brave brothers and sisters in arms fight for our planet with a ferocity unmatched by the green skins. Each day, the air booms with constant barrages of artillery guns and each night the flamers go out to scourge the land of the fallen.
Rumours have been going round that tonight’s the night. That the order will finally be given. That we will go over the top and take the fight to the Orks, pushing them back towards their meteor and their final defeat. It’s been so long since we dug the lines, it’s hard to remember the last time we fought them head on. We all remember it though, the horde ripping apart those guardsmen unlucky enough to close the gap. No one expects to survive again.
I wish I could say I was afraid. The Orks physical strength should terrify me with the order to charge straight into it. When you have nothing left to lose though, you can only win. It was time to make those green skinned bastards pay.
The sirens have started. I expect this will be my last entry.
I will see you soon, my love.
