About

About Black Tomes

Across worlds, across ages, stories endure.

Empires rise and fall. Gods are born, forgotten, and reborn. Civilisations burn themselves to ash and are remembered—if they are remembered at all—only in fragments, half-truths, and echoes. What survives is never the whole truth. What survives is what was written down.

Black Tomes is a collection of such writings.

This site exists as an archive of stories inspired by the many worlds and ages of the Warhammer universes. From the clash of gods and mortals in the Mortal Realms, to the slow grinding tragedy of the Old World, to the vast, uncaring gulfs of space and the long wars of the far future, these are tales shaped by conflict, belief, duty, ambition, and ruin.

Not every story here is heroic.

Not every truth is comforting.

Some were never meant to be found.

The Nature of the Tomes

In legend, black tomes are not merely books. They are records bound in secrecy, danger, and consequence. They are texts chained shut, sealed away, censored, forgotten, or deliberately destroyed—yet somehow preserved.

This site is framed as one such collection.

Each story is presented as if recovered from an archive, transcribed from a damaged manuscript, or retold from a fragmentary source. Some are complete chronicles. Others are personal accounts, battlefield recollections, myths, prayers, confessions, or last testaments. All are shaped by the understanding that history in Warhammer is never clean, never neutral, and never fully known.

What you read here may be fact, distortion, or deliberate falsehood. Often, it is all three.

What You Will Find Here

Black Tomes publishes original fan-written narrative fiction inspired by the tone, themes, and atmosphere of Games Workshop’s fictional universes. Stories may focus on:

  • Individuals caught in events far larger than themselves
  • The slow erosion of hope, faith, or certainty
  • Lost cities, forgotten wars, and unnamed heroes
  • The consequences of belief, obedience, and defiance
  • Moments of humanity, courage, or cruelty in hostile worlds

Stories may span different settings, styles, and lengths. Some are grim and tragic. Others are reflective, solemn, or quietly heroic. All aim to respect established lore while remaining clearly distinct from official publications.

Why Black Tomes Exists

Warhammer has always been more than battles and armies. Its strength lies in the sense of deep time: the idea that every war is one of thousands, every victory temporary, every truth eventually buried beneath newer lies.

Black Tomes exists to explore that depth.

To tell the smaller stories hidden between campaign books and codices.

To give voice to moments history forgot.

To remind us that even in worlds defined by endless war, stories still matter.

If you are reading this, then one of the tomes has been opened.

Whether it should have been… is another matter entirely.
